Azerbaijan Banknotes Catalog
The history of banknotes in Azerbaijan reflects the political and economic evolution of the country. Since its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Azerbaijan has undergone significant changes in its currency, passing through different stages until reaching the current banknotes.
Current banknotes in circulation
Azerbaijan' s current banknotes are denominated in Azerbaijani manat (AZN). Introduced in 2006, these banknotes feature modern designs that reflect the country's culture and history. The denominations in circulation include 1, 5, 10, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 manat. Each banknote features national motifs, such as historical monuments, cultural symbols and prominent figures from Azerbaijani history.
Old banknotes and currency transition
Prior to the current banknotes, Azerbaijan used different currencies in its post-Soviet transition. Initially, the country continued to use the Soviet ruble, followed by the Azeri manat introduced in 1992. This first version of the manat experienced high inflation, which led to the issuance of high denomination banknotes. In 2006, a currency reform was implemented that introduced the new manat, with an exchange rate of 1 new manat to 5,000 old manat, marking an important milestone in the country's economic stabilization.
