What is the Foronum Coin Catalog and how is it managed?
The World Coin Catalog is a collaborative tool created by Foronum users. This system is constantly enriched, as collectors can create their collections from the catalog and, when necessary, add new coins or modify existing ones. In this way, each user contributes unselfishly with the information he/she considers relevant, helping the catalog to grow day by day.

Rarity of a coin
Rarity is calculated based on the number of specimens in users' collections. The 5 ranks range from very scarce, scarce, medium, common and very common.
Popularity of the coin
Popularity is calculated based on the number of visits this coin or banknote is receiving recently. The purpose of this feature is to detect peaks of demand or fashions of a coin or banknote in a recent period of time.

Manually calculating the intrinsic value of each currency is useful to understand the market, but in practice the investor needs constantly updated data. In Foronum, from the individual file of each coin you can consult the updated spot price and the intrinsic value recalculated daily according to the price of the metal. This allows you to know at all times how much the metal content of each piece is really worth.
In addition, premium users have advanced tools within their personal collection: they can receive indicative price recommendations and immediately visualize when a coin is trading below its metal value, which makes it easier to detect more informed buying opportunities and always have the value of the collection up to date. What is the KM# of a coin?
The KM of a coin is the identification number given to each coin by the Krause Publishers World Coins catalog. The initials come from the names Chester Krause and Clifford Mishler.
This numbering is not global, but country-specific, i.e. each country starts with a KM number. 
What is the difference between type and year?
We call type the grouping of physical characteristics of a basic coin that make it different from others, for example diameter, weight, image, etc. When we have a type we assign it a reference or what is the same a FO#. The most famous type reference is the KM# which is fundamental for collectors.
On the other hand, the types usually have different years, we refer to year when we talk about new issues of the same coin and that will be accompanied by a new mintage and even a change of mint.
How to add or modify a coin type (FO# / KM#) to the catalog?
In the following video you will see the most important aspects when entering a new coin, or in other words, a new type in the catalog. In this case the type and year of the first record will be entered. You must take into account that once the changes have been introduced an administrator will validate your changes and you will receive an e-mail with the result, if it is accepted you will be able to see the changes in the catalog.
