The monetary history of the Netherlands Antilles is fascinating and reflects the political and economic changes in the region. From its establishment as a Dutch colony until its dissolution in 2010, the Netherlands Antilles has experienced various monetary systems and coin issues that are of great interest to numismatists.

Currency and monetary system

The Netherlands Antillean guilder was the official currency of the Netherlands Antilles from 1940 until 2010. This coin replaced the Curaçao guilder and was divided into 100 cents. The most common coins included denominations of 1, 5, 10, 10, 25 and 50 cents, as well as 1 and 2.5 guilders. Banknotes were issued in denominations of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 guilders. The fixed parity with the US dollar, established in 1971, was an important milestone in the region's monetary history.

Relevant numismatic milestones

Among the highlights in the numismatic history of the Netherlands Antilles is the issuance of commemorative coins, such as the series of 25 guilder silver coins minted between 1973 and 1979 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the reign of Queen Juliana. Another significant milestone was the introduction of bi-metallic coins in 1989, with the issuance of the 5 guilder coin. With the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles in 2010, the guilder was replaced by the US dollar in some islands and the Caribbean guilder in others, marking the end of an era in the region's monetary history.

Netherlands Antilles is a country that does not exist today. It is now part of the Netherlands old coins.
