The 1 Mexican peso coin issued between 1984 and 1987 is an important piece in Mexican numismatics. On its obverse, it shows the national coat of arms of Mexico with a Mexican golden eagle perched on a cactus, devouring a snake, surrounded by a crown of oak and laurel, with the legend"ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" forming a semicircle at the top. The reverse features a bust of José María Morelos in general uniform, facing right, with the mintmark Ṁ on the left and the denomination "1$" on the right, along with the date of issue.

Particularly, the 1984 coins offer a numismatic curiosity: some bear the engraver's initials "ra" (Rodolfo Alvarado) under the flap of Morelos' uniform, while on others these initials were removed, leaving a polished surface. These variants, along with the "mule" error on some 1985 coins, where the obverse of this coin was combined with the planchet and reverse of the Carranza 100 peso coin, make them especially valuable to collectors. The coin is made of stainless steel, with a weight of 5.70 g and a diameter of 24 mm.
