Monetary history of Slovenia
Before independence in 1991, Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia and used the Yugoslav dinar. After independence, the Slovenian tolar was introduced as the national currency. In addition, in 2010, the country issued a commemorative €3 coin, the first coin of this value in the eurozone, to commemorate the 2010 FIBA Basketball World Championship held in Slovenia.
