Bahrain Coins

The official currency of Bahrain is the Bareini Dinar, which is divided into 1000 fils. This monetary system has been central to the country's economy since its introduction in 1965, replacing the Gulf Rupee.

Current currency in circulation

The current Bareini Dinar is issued in bills of 1/2, 1, 1, 5, 10 and 20 dinars, and in coins of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 fils. The Central Bank of Bahrain is responsible for issuing and regulating the currency. The banknotes feature images of Bahrain's landmarks, such as the Al-Fateh Mosque and the Bahrain Fort.

Monetary history and relevant facts

Prior to the dinar, Bahrain used various currencies throughout its history, including the Indian rupee and the pound sterling. An important milestone was the introduction of the first series of coins in 1965, which marked the country's monetary independence. In 2016, Bahrain issued a commemorative series of coins to celebrate the 45th anniversary of its independence, demonstrating the importance of numismatics in celebrating national identity.
