Belgium, one of the founding countries of the euro in 2002, has used its commemorative 2-euro coins to highlight historical events, illustrious figures and its commitment to European integration. The first issue took place in 2005 on the occasion of the Belgian State Treaty, and since then the country has maintained a line of issues with strong symbolic content.
