The year 2025 marks the beginning of a new cycle in the 2-euro commemorative coin program, with themes that point to the future while paying tribute to the continent's cultural, scientific and democratic roots. 2025: Science, heritage and a vision of the future in new commemorative issues
With the legacy of more than 20 years of numismatic history, 2025 kicks off with new commemorative 2-euro coins that reaffirm the value of European memory in times of change. In a global context marked by technological innovation, energy transition and geopolitical challenges, the first issues of the year reflect a Europe that not only looks to its past, but projects itself strongly into the future.
Among the coins already announced or issued, those of Spain stand out, which continues with its World Heritage series by dedicating this year's coin to the Monastery of San Salvador de Celanova. Germany has presented its issue corresponding to the state of Saxony, with the Moritzburg Castle as the protagonist. Other countries, such as Italy, France, Malta and Slovakia, have also begun to unveil coins focusing on institutional anniversaries, scientific figures and cultural expressions of European relevance.
Although a common commemorative issue has not yet been confirmed, the European political and social climate, marked by preparations for the European Parliament elections and the launch of new digital and environmental policies, could lead to some coinage with strong symbolic content in the second half of the year.
