The Netherlands, a member of the euro zone since 2002, has issued a variety of commemorative €2 coins that reflect its monarchical tradition, cultural figures and role in European history. The first issue took place in 2007 as part of the celebration of the Treaty of Rome, and since then the country has skillfully combined national and European themes in its designs.
