Belarus Coins

The official currency of Belarus is the Belarusian ruble, which has undergone several changes throughout the country's history. Belarusian numismatics reflect the rich history and culture of this Eastern European nation.

Current currency in circulation

The current Belarusian ruble was introduced in 2016, replacing the previous version at a ratio of 1:10000. This new currency includes banknotes with modern designs depicting different regions of the country and coins of 1, 2 and 5 kopeks, as well as 1 and 2 rubles. The banknotes feature advanced security measures and architectural and historical motifs significant to Belarus.

Monetary history and highlights

Prior to independence in 1991, Belarus used the Soviet ruble. After the dissolution of the USSR, the country temporarily adopted the transitional Belarusian ruble in 1992, followed by several denominations due to high inflation. An important numismatic milestone was the issuance of the first commemorative coin series in 1996, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. Since then, Belarus has issued numerous gold and silver commemorative coins, which are highly prized by collectors for their quality and unique designs reflecting Belarusian culture and history.
