The Belgian franc: predecessor of the euro
Before the adoption of the euro, Belgium's official currency was the Belgian franc. Introduced in 1832, shortly after the country's independence, the Belgian franc was the national currency for more than 170 years. Belgian numismatic milestones
Belgium has been home to several significant numismatic milestones. In 1865, the country was a founding member of the Latin Monetary Union, an early attempt at monetary unification in Europe.
