Saint Kitts and Nevis Coins

Saint Kitts and Nevis uses the Eastern Caribbean dollar as its official currency. This currency is issued by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and is shared by several countries in the region. The numismatic history of Saint Kitts and Nevis reflects its colonial past and its evolution towards independence.

Monetary History

Before adopting the Eastern Caribbean dollar, St. Kitts and Nevis used various currencies throughout its history. During the colonial period, Spanish and British coins circulated. In the 20th century, the British West Indies dollar was introduced and used until 1965. Subsequently, the East Caribbean dollar was adopted in 1965, which remains the official currency until today.
