The Angolan kwanza (AOA) has been the currency in circulation since 1999, after several previous denominations. The current kwanza is divided into 100 cents and is issued in banknotes from 5 to 2000 kwanzas, as well as coins from 1 to 20 kwanzas.

Among the highlights in Angolan numismatics is the issuance of commemorative coins, such as the series dedicated to the 25th anniversary of independence in 2000. In addition, in 2012, Angola introduced a new family of banknotes with modernized designs and enhanced security features.
